Rock Band Blues and Rocketdock

Well today's post is really both of me ranting and recommending something. I begin the rant first since its fun to do >.>.

My rant will start with the Rock Band that I recieved for Christmas, we all know what this game is and if we dont just look it up. Well, I have avidly put myself into this game, much like I did Guitar Hero II-III, and played the instruments well; this is where the problems began. After no more then 6 days, the Guitar broke. I have no idea if this common, as I have no seen much on the websites of reviewers or forums, but from my encounters with several Rock Band guitars, it is. Although I own the PS3 version, thus owning the PS3 compliant guitar, I have seen the Xbox 360 ones become defective too. This really isnt that they dont work as much as the strummer will not register as being hit, this creating a huge problem when playing alot of their songs, much more that I play on Expert. I am just hoping that once Rock Band comes out with single instruments I can trade mine in an see if it works better or just buy a better (yet more kiddish looking) Guitar Hero II for the PS3.

Oh and before I end this post, I would love to recommend the following Program to you if you currently use Windows Vista (or XP, im not sure if it works there). http://rocketdock.com/ head on there and try out this FREE program which organizes your computer, making it a much more compact and cleaner interface. You simply just have to drag and drop all your icons onto the dock and you have a clean screen. I use to push away from it for being a Windows fanboi, but its just too good to pass off. So make sure you head there and check it out.

Well I'm going to end this post with a shout out to my woman. Love you sweety!

Achievements for Gaming.

Before I Start, Happy New Year :D

Well, for Christmas I finally got the ps3, which ends my quest to own all the "next-gen" systems. With it, I recieved Warhawk, Motorstorm, UT3 (Unreal Tournament 3), Eye of Judgement, and Rock Band (Special Edition).

I am however, a very large 360 fan, although not truly biased I am still sliding their way for mainly one reason, achievements. Yes, I know most people think its a dead thing to really try for, with all the hackers and the fact that some companies dont take it seriously, but that doesn't phase me. I truly feel more obligated to finish a game, and unlock "Completed game" achievements or the other several ones that you find throughout your play.

This, I truly realized while I was playing the PS3. I rented Heavenly Sword, because I really did see that as a great game, and found myself playing it for only two reasons. One, because i spent $8 to rent it >.<, and two - the cinematics were really good. The game saw itself lacking, but I truly know if the game contained achievements like the xbox 360 games, I would of tried harder to get 3 glyphs (stars or completion) in every level instead of just beating it. This can be seen by most games I play on the 360, such as Blue Dragon, Scene it!, and Viva Pinata (although all of those are great games). The reason is because I see myself as yearning for recognition of the deeds i had done. In the past, I would never of completed an RPG truly, unless it really really grabbed me, but as soon as achievements were given, i finished RPG's just like that (Enchanted Arms, Blue Dragon).

Really all im saying is that companies need to latch onto this type of gaming aspect and truly realize that achievements can really pull through and make a person dive into the game longer. An example would show back when Halo was just released, I was still in High School, but kids all over would tell of beating it on legendary, but not proof really. This would be easily solvable like on Halo3's achievement system where it says you've beaten on legendary, as well as gives you armor unlockables to show it off.

This truly (in my own opinion) revolutionized the way gaming is played, as people would buy games just to achieve those points. I truly believe that if the PS3 grabs this type of aspect (I believe HOME is getting that little touch but I am not sure), that sales and playtime would increase as giving a person a way to show himself to the world instead of only knowing himself, truly this is because as anyone would know, recognition is something almost everyone needs, be it achievements, ego-feeding, or a simple "i love you" from your lover, it always helps.
